Like probably most of Generation Y, my photography journey started simple – cameras in our mobile phones. Whilst the cameras in phones are far better these days, it was enough to pique my interest in this hobby.
My first camera purchase was a compact camera, the Nikon Coolpix S9100 to be exact. Something that takes awesome photos and only needs one hand. I still have this camera too – it lives almost permanently in my handbag. Convenient for those times when I don’t have my DSLR on me, or when I can only devote one hand to taking photos!
My first DSLR purchase was a Canon 1100D in 2013. Scored an awesome bargain on it, and it provided the perfect platform for figuring out the ins and outs of DSLR photography. I have since upgraded. However I do still have this camera – receipt, box and all!
My current camera is the Canon 70D, bought in 2016 just as they released the newly updated version.
I have four lenses I use currently.
Canon EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens – my main walkabout lens at this point
Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Lens – got this lens when I got my 1100D. It’s mostly now kept as a backup
Sigma APO 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens – my new BIG baby
Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX AF 11-16mm f2.8 II Lens – my night shoot and aurora choice
As for my preferred style? I tend towards more landscape and nature photography. But you’ll also see macro shots, pet portraits and urban scenes sneak in too. And no doubt anything else that catches my attention. I’m particularly drawn to patterns and themes, but I will try anything at least once!
